DesignBridge

I'm a student, how can I get involved?

The easiest way to get involved is to come to a WEDNESDAY LUNCH MEETING from 12-1PM in Lawrence Hall Rm 279. You can get all the latest info on what's going on that week & ways to help.

There are many ways to be involved in designBridge, not all of them are full-year projects in fact there are always smaller projects and tasks that sometimes take as little as two hours. These are a great way to 'get your feet wet' and help out. Here's an example of the range of levels of involvement.

o Help make thank you cards or host a charette after studio one night (2 hours)

o Come to a spring build day. Pour some concrete, learn how to make a stacked

stone-wall, erect some steel columns. Safety training may be required. (4-7 hours)

o Join the grants team! It's a great way to polish your writing skills, raise money for the

organization and it looks great on a resume! (2-3 hours a week for two months.)

o Help work on a non-curriculum project such as HOPES or planning the Beaux Arts Ball.

These are usually much more focued on the design stage of the process and offer lots

of networking and collaboration opportunities. (1-3 hours a week for one term)

o Volunteer on a dB Year project team. Get involved with one of the teams working on

a yearlong project, this is a great way to be exposed to all stages of the design

process and also gives you the ability to volunteer with more flexibility. (1-2 hours a

week for one year)

o Take the dB Year sequence. Take ownership over filling a need in our community by

taking the three dB Year courses. You'll be leading an effort from start to finish and will

have a great project and great experience to put in your portfolio. (4-8 hours a week

for one year)

o Become an organizational manager. Balance a budget, write a strategic plan, meet

with donors, vet potential projects. The org, managers are the backbone that help

keep designBridge running, it's a great way to bolster your leadership skills. (2-8 hours

a week for one year)
