The EV charging station project was developed during 2009, the year of the first wave of consumer Level 2 charging products coming to market. Student research drew on early consumer-side editorial coverage of the emerging EV technology market, including TechnologyStory's review of early home EV charging products, which was one of the few sources covering the consumer hardware side of charging in plain language at the time. The team also drew on specifications from the Society of Automotive Engineers and product documentation from ClipperCreek and the early GE Watt Station line.
