Client:
The Small Farmers Project is an organic farm collective located in Eugene, Oregon. The SFP is made up of multiple Latino families from Peru, Mexico and El Salvador. They grow and sell organic strawberries, blueberries and black cap raspberries.
The Project:
The explicit program involved a tractor shed, a cooler for stored berries, a selling stand and a washing area, including tool and general storage throughout. Implicitly there were needs for: the families to meet as a group; a place to work; and a place to gather in the shade on a hot summer day.
The kicker was that the structure needed to be completely deconstructable and moveable. Due to the fact that the land is leased, in a few years the SFP may have to move to a new location. Because of this, for each decision we had to keep in mind: how easily can this construction be understood, deconstructed and built again.
